A Moment
Well, it’s the day after Thanksgiving.
How are you feeling?
The guests have come and gone, but the mess remains.
The food is cooked, consumed and what is left is in tupperware.
The sink is filled with dirty dishes.
The kids are hungry.
Today is Black Friday…what deal are we missing while we read this.
You are wondering what will be available for Christmas in thoughts of time, money, energy and patience.
At what point did the preparations of the past and preparations for the future allow for you to have a moment in the present to give thanks.
We talk about living in the moment, seizing the moment, and being grateful for the moment, but let’s be honest…our focus is constantly moving. I am constantly in motion. Even when at rest I am considering what might and will be. I am reflecting upon what was.
One of the hardest things we can do is simply stop and be in the present.
So today, if you didn’t have a chance to yesterday, and before you get caught up in tomorrow, I want you to stop and take a deep breath, and then simply read this Psalm (111):
Praise the Lord!
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,
in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
2 Great are the works of the Lord,
studied by all who delight in them.
3 Full of splendor and majesty is his work,
and his righteousness endures forever.
4 He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered;
the Lord is gracious and merciful.
5 He provides food for those who fear him;
he remembers his covenant forever.
6 He has shown his people the power of his works,
in giving them the inheritance of the nations.
7 The works of his hands are faithful and just;
all his precepts are trustworthy;
8 they are established forever and ever,
to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.
9 He sent redemption to his people;
he has commanded his covenant forever.
Holy and awesome is his name!
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
all those who practice it have a good understanding.
His praise endures forever!
Happy Thanksgiving.
