A New Year, An Unchanging Promise
This is a time of year we spend talking about new beginnings. It’s 2022 after all. Over the weekend I was watching a show that was comparing what all the science fiction shows of the past promised in the distant future of the year 2020…and beyond.
No disease, Flying cars, World peace…..
We look at these promises and we look at our plans as well.
This is the year I will get healthy.
This will be the year I get the better career.
This is the year I will meet my expectations, meet my future spouse, meet my financial goal….
As a teacher in high school used to like to tell me….the future is all possibility.
It’s also scary. How do we move forward with a sense of confidence and peace?
By looking backwards and seeing what God has brought us through already.
By looking at the present and seeing God at work.
And by trusting God with the future. It’s not easy, but it is a skill worth developing
Take a moment today and start the year off by reading from Hebrews chapter 11.
In this chapter God shows how faith in the past fulfilled his plans for the future. And it all leads up to chapter 40. It’s working to provide something better for us. What is that better thing?
Take a look at what Peter says in 1 Peter 1:3-4 (ESV)
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,
A Living Hope.
An Imperishable Inheritance.
Giving to you by Jesus Christ.
Happy New Year my friends, our Hope Looks Forward.
