Tomorrow
Do not say to your neighbor,
“Go away! Come back some other time.
I will give something to you tomorrow,”
when in fact it is already with you right now. (Proverbs 3:28 EHV)

There is something intrinsically unequal in the delivery and reception of The Family Table Devotions. You may be on the email list that receives it before it is posted on Hope’s website. You have the option to read it when it hits your inbox, or wait to read it at a more convenient time. If you are reading this on the website, you have actively sought it out, which could be days or weeks after the posting. I, on the other hand, have a deadline which I have to meet so that it is available.
Many of the devotions I write are an exploration and defining of thoughts or concepts that I have found in my personal Bible study, devotions, and worship. I try to imagine what you may find interesting, edifying, and helpful in your devotional pursuits. We are all given the same 168 hours in a week, however, I will not reveal the time that goes into producing what may take you fifteen minutes to digest. And my deadline ticks closer.
While my deadline is mostly self imposed, as is the desire to give you a “quality product”; there has been a discernable lack of inspiration this week. No ax to grind, no ox to gore, no rights to wrong, no metaphor… (I will definitely use that line again!) It is not that I am doing anything less to prep, although, I am trying to manage more that has been added. And more ticks pass.
What will I give you that I have right now?
I am going to call your attention to the gospel that I preached to you. You received it, and you took your stand on it. You are also being saved by that gospel that was expressed in the words I preached to you, if you keep your hold on it—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received:
that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,
that he was buried,
that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve.
After that he appeared to over five hundred brothers at the same time. (1 Corinthians 15:1-6 EHV)

And he will come again. And that deadline ticks closer.
