Essential Music
One of the unwritten goals of my part of this devotion is to drive you into scripture. I am sure that is also true of Pastor Dan. I was tickled that Pastor Dan’s Friday’s devotion “Essential Music” drove me straight to Google! I just had to Google “list of super bowl half time performers”. It is a fascinating list, and definitely parallels the changes in culture. (I tried to find a “Know Music Know Life” image for the above pic.)
If there is a “traditional” essential music for the Super Bowl it is “the marching band”. Trailing a distance second is Up With People. Up With People??? Is there anyone seriously trying to get that back on the half time show? I vaguely remember the 1976 tribute to the American Bicentennial show; or maybe I am conflating that with the Coca-Cola “I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing” commercial!? It’s not a marching band, but hey, what is?
You may have picked up on a subtext here. “Traditional”, “music”, I explored this a bit in “Worship Wars“.
Pastor Dan is going to look at:
In Essentials Unity,
In Non-Essentials Liberty,
In All Things Charity.
I’m looking forward to it. So much so, that I will also recommend you read Romans 14, however I will link to my favorite version the EHV: it says the same thing with just a different flavor. Drive to the scripture and compare the two versions.
