Scheduling Conflict
My friends, is it OK if I share with you a worry that I have? I didn’t hear you object, so I hope so. I fear an old adversary is rearing its head again. A terrible foe who robbed us of our peace, stole away our family and constantly stood between us and our Lord.
Want to know what that opponent is.
I’m busy.
No, I’m not telling you to come back later, I am telling you the opponent that we face is the need to constantly be busy. At the height of the pandemic, we comforted ourselves with the fact that we surrounded ourselves with family and focused on our faith. But now our schedules have filled up and we find ourselves out of patience, out of breath and out of worship.
And its summertime.
As you prepare for the fall season, I want to encourage you to guard your calendar.
Don’t sacrifice your family.
Don’t surrender your devotional time.
It may mean you say no to the world; and that means saying no to things you really want. It may mean being late to a party or missing out. But I want to encourage you. It is worth it. Everything here is temporary. The things of God are eternal.
Where is your focus?
May it always be as Paul says in Colossians 3:1 (ESV)
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Pace yourself my friends, run the race, focus on the prize
