Emotions
Two days ago, my kids got the email they were nervously expecting. They now know who their teachers are going to be in the fall. They are excited because an uncertainty is now removed. They are sad because it means summer is ending. They are nervous because it means a new beginning. They are happy to see their school friends again. They will be upset when early bedtimes and alarms become a thing again as we train them into a new sleep schedule.
So many emotions around one event. Looking back at it now, the first day of school was a trivial event. How many days will we have that are bigger?
All of these emotions become a large part of who we are. God did not create us to be Mr. Spock, but to be emotional beings. Our faith shapes our emotions to. The Bible speaks about fear and anger, sorrow and joy. Anxiety and happiness. So today I want you to stop and think for a moment. No, I am not calling for you to “share your feelings”. But I do want to ask you how your emotions point to your faith?
As you consider that question, ponder also on Galatians 5:22 through 25
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
Summer blessings my friends,
