Ash – A Lent Meditation
Another year, another refresh of the mark
Ash imposed, made visible for you
Lasting for an hour, maybe two
Slowly to fade, has it done its work?
Ash will fill the spot, where water and word
First killed and made alive
Dead to sin, regenerated to believe
Living through the death of my Lord.
I often forget the water, rarely remember the ash
Brought into the Kingdom by promise
Grace upon grace, more than I surmise
Cleaned by the blood, water, word, washed.
He remains faithful to his promises
Faith, hope, and love remains1
His righteousness remains forever2
I am the Vine; you are the branches.
The one who remains in me and I in him is the one who bears much fruit,
because without me you can do nothing.3
Trust the Promise
