Sharing is Caring
The phrase “sharing is caring” was popularized in the 1970s and 1980s, though where it comes from is unknown. It rose to prominence as a slogan for the Salvation Army in the 1950’s. That being said, I think every child is told early in their school days that “Sharing is Caring”.
Personally, I believe is all comes from a Bible verse. In Galatians 6 Paul challenges the church to Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
We are called by Christ to carry each other. Not just celebrate with them in the good times, or laugh with them, but to actually walk with them when it hurts. To often we ask people how they ae doing and we accept “fine” or “Ok” or “I’m good”…and even if we know there is something more, something troubling, we quickly move to disengage and be on our way.
We don’t like being confronted with sin and hurt in the world. One of the ways sin works best is when it isolates people. Every sin is a community problem. You can’t break one of the Commandments and have it be just a “you” problem.
Break Commandment 1 through 3 and you have a problem in your relationship with God.
Break Commandment 4 through 10 and you have a problem in your community.
That problem divides and breaks fellowship.
What are we called to do as Christians? To come alongside the hurt, the broken, the isolated, and not just give them advice or suggestions, but to pick up their baggage and help them carry it. Let’s take a minute and just admit how hard that is.
Then let’s remember that what Christ has called you to do, He will give you the strength to accomplish.
Let’s put this into practice together.
See you Sunday,
