A Hint of The End

Steve Skiver   -

Look! I am going to send Elijah the prophet to you before the great and fearful day of the Lord comes! He will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers. Otherwise, I will come and strike the land with complete destruction.

Those lines from the final chapter of Malachi end the Old Testament. For over four hundred years the Lord was silent. Then, according to St Paul: “When the set time had fully come, God sent his Son to be born of a woman, so that he would be born under the law, in order to redeem those under the law.” [Galatians 4:4-5 EHV] On the Liturgical Calendar we are approaching Reformation Sunday, then All Saints and All Souls day and several weeks later the end of the Church year. The penultimate verse from Revelation reads: “The one who testifies about these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!” [Revelation 20:22 EHV]

With the end, a new beginning: Advent, and the anticipation of the coming Messiah. And the final line of Revelation [20:23 EHV] The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with all the saints. Amen.
