NOISE
When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is the noise of war in the camp.”

I cover my ears as the noise hits my chest.
Yes, you can feel the noise.
The noise presses from every direction.
There is no retreat from the noise.
From the left there is noise.
From the right there is noise.
From below there is noise.
From above there is noise.
All directions, headlong into the noise.
Is the noise getting louder?
I can no longer discern it.
The noise has made my ears deaf,
I no longer hear the noise.
Yet I still feel the noise.
The noise presses from every direction.
It is the noise of victory.
It is the noise of defeat.
It is the noise of a wild party.
It is the noise of war in the camp.
It is the noise of the broken stones at the foot of the mountain.
