The Problem of Not Being God, But Really Wanting To Be

Steve Skiver   -

Sometimes, the clarity and conviction of faith turns into confusion.

Faith is being sure about what we hope for, being convinced about things we do not see.

Sometimes, the things we do not see coming shake us to our foundation.

We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Sometimes, God’s idea of good does not line up with my idea of good.

The Lord puts to death, and he makes alive.

He brings down to the grave, and he raises up.

Sometimes, the specter of death looms large around us.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me will live, even if he dies. And whoever lives and believes in me will never perish. Do you believe this?”

Sometimes.

I do believe. Help me with my unbelief!

And what of my plans?

I know that you can do all things.

No purpose of yours can be thwarted.

You asked, “Who is this who spreads darkness over my plans

    with his ignorant words?”

I have made statements about things I did not understand,

things too wonderful for me to know.

You said, “Listen now and I will speak.

I will ask you questions, and you will inform me.”

My ear heard about you.

Now my eyes see you.

So I despise myself.

I repent in dust and ashes.

The things I plan, am I planning them the way the sinful flesh does, so that I would be saying both “Yes, yes” and “No, no” at the same time?

As surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not “Yes” and “No.” For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you, was not “Yes” and “No,” but in him the “Yes” stands firm. In fact, as many promises as God has made, they have always been “Yes” in him. For that reason we also say “Amen” through him to the glory of God.
