Value

Dan Howard   -

I grew up collecting comic books. It was something that was popular in the 90’s. Grabbing every number one you can, picking up comics you are certain are going to be worth a lot someday. Number one’s and alternate covers, all guaranteed to be worth something right? Then the internet came along. First it made it easier to get hard to get issues…you didn’t have to scour shops and conventions…now it was sent to you. Then came internet subscriptions. You could have access to the whole library for a small monthly fee. Why buy when you can rent?

We are often guilty of thinking somethings are of great value. We hold onto that belief until something forces us to change our mind. For example, look at the story of Arthur Godfrey Peuchen. He was one of the survivors of the Titanic. When the ship was sinking, he ran for a lifeboat. He left in his cabin $200,000 in stocks and bonds, his jewelry, and the presents he had bought for his children. What did he take from his cabin into the lifeboat with him? Three oranges. Immense wealth, especially in 1912, was suddenly worthless, and a few pieces of fruit became valuable.

Value is often subjective…something is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it.

So today, I want to remind you of what God was willing to pay for you to have a relationship with Him.

From Romans 5:6-8 (ESV)
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Sin left you a walking corpse…after all, the wages of sin is death…
God still placed great value on you anyway.
He loves you; He redeems you.
As we move towards the end of the church year and prepare ourselves for the coming advent season, It is good to remember why we have this season. Because Advent leads to Lent

Peace on Earth and God will to men.
Given and shed for you.

That not only changes your value, it changes your eternal destination.

Priceless in His eyes, and so are you
