Exposed

Dan Howard   -

Last week as they tested the emergency broadcast network we all scrambled to silence our blaring. If you had a phone, we knew it. You couldn’t hide it. This got several men in trouble…You see, several Amish men had phones, and they were hiding them because Amish communities see technology as destructive to the social fabric. Usually, a community shares one phone outside of the house. A personal phone is a reason for an individual to be shunned (placed under discipline) by the community.

We recently discussed Romans 6 this last Wednesday, and Paul’s point is that sin begets sin. A sinner can only produce sin. In fact, the Bible says that you can tell a tree by its fruit. What does this mean? Just like an Amish man with a phone, sooner or later an emergency will happen, you will react true to your nature and you will get exposed as a sinner.

How will you react when others see you as a sinner?
Shame? Guilt?

What is God’s reaction to sin…more than shunning,
The wages of sin is death.

Does that leave you feeling hopeless or filled with despair?

If that is the case I encourage you to read Romans 6: 21 to 23 –

What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The gift of God is eternal life.

You didn’t deserve it. You can’t earn it. You are not worthy of it.
You were exposed…and God offered you salvation.
You were condemned, and he gave you Calvary instead.

Why would God do that? Why would He sacrifice His son to save you?
That’s Romans chapter 8, but I’ll give you a bit of a spoiler if you can’t wait for our Wednesday night service.

Because of Christ nothing will separate you from the love of God.

I invite you along for this journey. The words spoken we all need to be reminded of.
I promise no one will shun you!

Let’s discover grace together, See you Wednesday
