The old specter attempted to rise

It was shoved deep where one tries to hide these things

Satisfactorily  — mistakenly — exiled to where the phantoms are veiled

Never was there anticipation of the threat of the resurfacing

Now to cope again

If ever that mechanism was in place

Now to face again

The music, if ever that was in tune

The great composers

The great teachers

Even the mystics

Have harmony to soothe

Have instructions to guide

Even magic to misdirect

They are the giants who stand on my shoulders

That hold me down

That hold down the specter

Just as it is written:

There is no one who is righteous, not even one.

There is no one who understands. There is no one who searches for God.

They all turned away; together they became useless.

There is no one who does what is good; there is not even one.
